We are pleased to share Neubauer Family Assistant Professor Anna Wuttig has been named a 2026 Sloan Research Fellow by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. The formative award recognizes early-career scientists identified as the next generation of scientific leaders for their potential to revolutionize their fields.

The fellowship builds on Wuttig’s recent recognition by the Bayer Foundation with the Early Excellence in Science Award, an international honor recognizing her contributions to electrochemistry. By bridging these two high-level honors, Wuttig continues to establish herself as an important voice at the intersection of physical and synthetic chemistry.

At the intersection of physical and synthetic chemistry, the Wuttig Group’s research on the fundamental behavior of electrified interfaces supports COBI’s mission to develop safer, cleaner, and more sustainable organic battery solutions. Her team designs catalyst platforms that transform abundant feedstocks into high-value molecules, providing the chemical industry with essential tools for a decarbonized future. The Sloan Fellowship will provide flexible support as her lab continues to push the boundaries of molecular science.

With this award, Wuttig joins a distinguished cohort of University of Chicago Department of Chemistry faculty who have been named Sloan Research Fellows in the last decade:

  • 2025: Sarah King
  • 2022: Mark Levin
  • 2020: Raymond Moellering
  • 2019: John Anderson
  • 2017: Bryan Dickinson
  • 2017: Suriyanarayanan Vaikuntanathan

The Center for Organic Battery Innovation (COBI) is grateful for the opportunity to support Professor Wuttig’s work and looks forward to her continued contributions to our scientific community.
