Dr. Liping Liu is a Postdoctoral Researcher within the Gagliardi Group at the University of Chicago. His research resides at the intersection of chemical engineering, computational chemistry, data science, and machine learning (ML), with a specialized focus on the design and characterization of catalysts and porous materials for diverse applications.

Dr. Liu earned his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Virginia Tech in 2025, where his doctoral research was distinguished by the Outstanding Graduate Research Award. Prior to his doctoral studies, he completed his B.E. in Chemical Engineering at Xi’an Jiaotong University in 2018, where he received the Outstanding Undergraduate Thesis award and was recognized as an Outstanding Graduate. His professional background further includes a summer intern at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL).

Throughout his career, Dr. Liu has been the recipient of several prestigious honors, including the Richard J. Kokes Travel Award from NAM29, the CRE Travel Award from AIChE 2024, and the CATL ChemCatBio Travel Award from ACS Fall 2023. As a member of the Gagliardi Group, he continues to push the boundaries of computational chemistry and machine learning to address critical global energy and environmental challenges.
